Generations of Birth: Stories from Our Grandmothers | Introduction

As society continues to shift and evolve, and as science and research expand our understanding, the landscape of becoming a mother has drastically changed over the past 100 years. Yet at the core of motherhood are elements that remain unchanged—raw, real, and generational truths. On a primal level, becoming a mother is an honor. You have been chosen to bring life into this world, to continue the bloodlines, and to nurture the next generation. It transforms you from the inside out.

As you step into your new role as an individual and autonomous person, you walk through the door to motherhood, emerging as a glorified and beautiful new version of yourself. These truths endure, whether you gave birth a thousand years ago or a few days ago. While our environments have shifted, the physical, emotional, and mental changes women experience remain constant from generation to generation.

I write this to specifically honor the grandmothers—those who birthed their own children and then witnessed their children bring forth new life. As our surroundings continue to change, let us not forget the unchanging truths that bind us all together.

Here are their birth stories.
